Governors

Governors have an important part to play in raising school standards. At South Walney Infant and Nursery School we feel the role of the governing board is absolutely key to the effectiveness of the school.

Our Governors support school in:

  • setting the aims and objectives for the school
  • setting the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • setting the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • monitoring and evaluating the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • being a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend).

We are fortunate to have a dedicated governing body who do all of this as well as demonstrating a keen interest in, and supporting the daily life of our busy, vibrant school.

The 3 core functions of the governing board

The core functions of the governing body are as set out in (regulation 6) and include, but are not limited to ensuring:

  • that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined

  • that the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school

  • the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources
