Nursery
South Walney Infant and Nursery School offers purpose built, high quality provision for children of 3-7 years.
FREE nursery education sessions are provided for children aged 3-4 years delivered by a Qualified Teacher and Senior Teaching Assistant. We offer both 15 hour (this is either 5 morning or 5 afternoon sessions) and 30 hour sessions (for those who qualify, please see below) for children of 3-4 years old. Nursery Session Times.
Our well qualified and experienced staff work hard to ensure that your child settles well, is happy, makes progress and really enjoys starting their learning here with us at South Walney. We provide a calm, nurturing and motivating environment with a curriculum filled with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences.
We pride ourselves on providing a well planned and organised play based curriculum where children are supported to develop their independence, make choices and to learn skills and gain knowledge to help them succeed on their learning journey throughout school
We follow the statutory government EYFS guidance and plan our curriculum provision from this including the use of high quality texts and themes which interest the children.
Parents and Carers are actively encouraged and supported to be a partner in their child’s learning and development here with us at South Walney. There are many opportunities throughout the year to liaise with staff and to join your child in learning based sessions in Nursery. We also provide you with digital access to your child’s learning journey document which comprises of photographs and notes of your child engaged in their learning through the TAPESTRY app. Parents have said “It’s wonderful to see what your child is doing and be able to make comments about that, we love Tapestry”. This document is something you can also contribute to and do really enjoy working together with you.
We are uniquely placed and play an active part within a busy infant school, gaining from many shared experiences within it. It also ensures when children finish their time in Nursery they have the most well planned and seemless transition to Reception possible.

30 hours free early education/childcare
- 30 hours free early education or childcare is for working families in England with 3 and 4-year-old children
- This is for 30 hours of free provision for 38 weeks
Your child can start their free Nursery place the term after they turn 3 years old and have received a valid 30 hours code.
Please note: To keep your 30 hours free childcare place you need to check your details are up to date every 3 months.
